Surf Buggy Bikes - Surf City, NJ

Doug and his crew run this store on Long Beach Island, NJ.  It's in my top ten places on the road trip.  The island is primarily populated by beach goers in the summertime but the locals surf here year round.  The water temperature was in the 40's while I was here - brrrrrr.  Doug is one of the hard core dudes out there braving the frigid water temps just to catch a wave.  Very nutty!

Beacon - Northfield, NJ

Mitch & Bob were so happy to see is.  Perhaps one of the largest stores in all of New Jersey, the store looked great

Hale Bicycle - Cape May Court House, NJ

There are only a few shops in America still selling Mopeds and Hale Bicycle is one of them.  Cape May is quaint little community on the Jersey Shore.  We think e-bikes is a perfect fit.

Bustleton Bikes - Philadelphia, PA

Had a great time dodging rain drops.  Pete & Josh both took a spin around the parking lot.

Philly Electric Wheels - Philadelphia, PA

Philly Electric recently opened in this great new location on Germantown Ave in a really trendy neighborhood and I was happy to be able to see it.  It was pouring rain while I here so not a lot of test riding done.

Love the folding bike display!

Bethlehem Steel Company - Bethlehem, PA

Bethlehem Steel Company at one point was the second largest steel company in America second only to US steel in Pittsburgh on the opposite side of the state of Pennsylvania.  The company started in 1857 and quickly became one of the shining stars in American manufacturing. From railroad rails to ship building the company was a leader in American workmanship.  In 2001 Bethlehem Steel filed for bankruptcy and was eventually liquidated.
On the partial site today is casino constructed by Sands Corporation that opened in 2009.  The new monster hotel adjacent to the casino was scheduled to open this summer but has been put on hold due to the poor economy.  Sands used a portion of the rail system from the original factory as dramatic feature at the entrance.
Progress?  I guess……
I took these shots before I left town.

Cutters Bike Shop - Bethlehem, PA

This very cool store is located in the shadows of the original Bethlehem Steel company.  Needless to say with loss of thousands of jobs in this community the bike market has changed over the years.  John and Lisa are both active in the mountain bike race scene and have a real passion for the sport.  The store is loaded with way cool mountain bike stuff.

They also do a great job catering to all aspects of cycling and were happy to give my samples a try.

They tell me Abby is the boss.  She was out taking some photos with me.  That's a camera in her hand.

The original corporate office for Bethlehem Steel was off to the left

The store looked great!

They had a video playing of some extreme off road riding.  Made me wanna go for a ride.
